Ministry Sued Over Use of Art in Ads

Artnet News is reporting that Rich Wilkerson, the minister who officiated Kim Kardashian's and Kanye West's wedding, is being sued for copyright infringement. Eight Miami street artists have sued Wilkerson's church, alleging that it used their street art in advertisements in social medial without their permission. According to the story, Wilkerson began an advertising campaign to promote a spin-off of his church and allegedly co-opted images of the artists' murals on the church's website, various media accounts, and in newspaper ads and pamphlets distributed throughout the city.

Andrew Gerber, the attorney initiating the lawsuit, explains, "A common misconception with a lot of people , , , is that publicly posting artwork places that artwork in the public domain. This is a misconception that needs to be corrected."
