The Fifth Circuit Goes High-Tech

The Fifth Circuit's Clerk, Lyle Cayce, recently gave a presentation at the University of Texas Conference on State and Federal Appeals about the Fifth Circuit's new briefing technology. Once an attorney files a brief, the Court's software turns that brief's references to hyperlinks. This isn't limited to case citations, but includes record citations, too. Those links are made available to judges and their staff on their computers and tablets. One benefit of this new technology is that it allows the judges to peruse the record citations before oral argument.
